“Ronnie Ramirez, a standout athlete at Edinburg Vela, has made significant strides in both shot put and discus this year. Competing in the Area 31/32-5A track and field championships, Ronnie secured his spot in the Region IV-5A championships in both events. In shot put, he delivered a clutch performance with a throw of 52-05.25, earning the fourth and final qualifying spot, just edging out the competition. However, his strength truly lies in the discus, where he continued to dominate. After a runner-up finish last year, Ronnie captured the gold medal in discus this season with a mark of 158-05, solidifying his place as one of the top competitors in the region. His growth and consistency make him a force to be reckoned with in both track and field and football.”
“The SaberCats will have to find a new group of pass-catchers, but they do have some experience at running back as senior Jonathan Flores is Vela’s leading returning rusher after posting 527 yards and seven touchdowns on 44 carries last season. Senior offensive linemen Ronnie Ramirez, Jesus Cedillo and Angel Rios will help clear space in the running game.”
